PIB Chandigarh Media Delegation Explores Innovation Ecosystem at IIT Jodhpur, NIFT and FDDI

Ananya soch: A media delegation from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Chandigarh visited leading academic and innovation institutions in Jodhpur, including Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), and Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI). The visit provided journalists with an in-depth understanding of the institutions’ research, innovation, and skill-based education initiatives that contribute to national development.At IIT Jodhpur, the delegation participated in a welcome and interaction session with the institute’s leadership. Director Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal highlighted the institute’s vision, academic programmes, and growing role in advanced research, technological innovation, and nation-building. Deans from various faculties also briefed the media on academic and research activities across disciplines. Prof. Agarwal emphasized that IIT Jodhpur continues to set new benchmarks in science and technology through collaborations with national institutions, industries, and government agencies. These partnerships are supporting significant projects that promote research, technological advancement, and innovation-driven solutions benefiting both society and industry.

The delegation also toured the School of Design, where interdisciplinary learning, innovation-driven pedagogy, and projects addressing social and technological challenges were showcased. Journalists visited the Jodhpur City Knowledge and Innovation Foundation (JCKIF) to learn about initiatives promoting entrepreneurship, startup incubation, and innovation ecosystems in the region.

During the visit, the media representatives explored the Central Research Facility (CRF) of IIT Jodhpur, which houses advanced scientific instruments supporting cutting-edge research. The delegation also observed the institute’s environmentally responsible campus with energy-efficient systems and sustainable infrastructure.

At NIFT Jodhpur, Director Prof. (Dr.) G.H.S. Prasad briefed the delegation about the institute’s innovative activities and quality-driven education system. He noted that NIFT is continuously advancing in technology-driven, skill-oriented, and employment-focused fashion education. Students from the institute have designed jerseys for the Rajasthan Royals cricket team and ceremonial attire for Parliament marshals.

Assistant Professor and PRO Dr. Manish Sharma informed that the delegation visited laboratories, training centres, and innovation facilities, appreciating the institute’s work in fashion technology. The visit was facilitated by Joint Director Dr. Janmaya Singh Hada and faculty member Dr. Aditi Medtiya.

At FDDI Jodhpur, Executive Director Anil Kumar explained that the institute aims to combine Rajasthan’s traditional craftsmanship with modern science and technology to reach global markets. Established in 2013 under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, FDDI is an Institute of National Importance under the FDDI Act, 2017.

He highlighted that the institute focuses on industry-driven courses, AI-based learning, digital retail, sustainable product development, startups, and entrepreneurship. According to him, the footwear and leather sector offers immense employment and startup opportunities for youth.

Through this visit, the media delegation gained firsthand insights into the interdisciplinary research, innovation initiatives, and skill-based education that are shaping India’s technological and creative future.
