“When Greed Awakens, Doom Follows: Tumbbad 2 Promises a Darker, Bigger Apocalypse in 2027”

Ananya soch: The long wait for fans of the cult classic Tumbbad is finally nearing its end. The much-anticipated sequel, Tumbbad 2, is officially set to release in theatres worldwide on December 3, 2027. Actor-producer Sohum Shah unveiled a gripping new poster, hinting at a sinister future with the caption: “A sinful past, an ominous future. The hunger rises, the legacy of greed continues… #PralayAayega.”

The announcement follows the successful 2024 re-release of Tumbbad, which introduced a new generation to its eerie folklore and visually stunning storytelling. The original film set a benchmark in Indian cinema with its blend of mythology, horror, and the timeless theme of greed, centered around the cursed legend of Hastar.

With Tumbbad 2, the narrative is expected to evolve dramatically. While the first installment explored personal and generational greed, the sequel will reportedly delve into “Pralay”—a cosmic dissolution or large-scale destruction. The story is likely to expand beyond individuals, reflecting the catastrophic consequences of unchecked greed on society, or perhaps the entire world.

There has been a notable shift behind the camera as well. Original director Rahi Anil Barve has stepped away from the project, with Adesh Prasad—who was associated with the writing of the first film—taking over the director’s chair. Backed by Sohum Shah Films and Pen Studios, the film is being mounted on an ambitious scale, with a reported budget of around ₹150 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian horror-fantasy ventures to date.

Production began in 2026, featuring expansive sets, international crew collaboration, and advanced VFX work aimed at delivering a more immersive cinematic experience. The film promises to retain the atmospheric depth of the original while elevating its visual and narrative scope.

On the casting front, Sohum Shah reprises his role, emphasizing that the sequel will feel familiar yet unfold in an entirely new way. Joining him is Nawazuddin Siddiqui, whose character is described as layered and pivotal, potentially steering the story into unexpected territory.

More than just a sequel, Tumbbad 2 aims to expand a cinematic universe rooted in folklore and fear. With its gripping themes of legacy, sin, and destruction, the film is poised to redefine Indian horror once again. As anticipation builds, one haunting question remains—will Pralay truly arrive?
