After winning the toss, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner chose to bowl first. India responded with a stunning batting display, posting a massive 255/5 in 20 overs, the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final.
India’s innings began explosively with Abhishek Sharma, who smashed the fastest fifty in a World Cup final, reaching the milestone in just 18 balls. Ishan Kishan added further momentum with a blistering 54 off 25 deliveries. However, the highlight of the innings was a sensational unbeaten 89 off 46 balls by Sanju Samson, the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final. Shivam Dube provided the late fireworks, smashing 26 runs off just 8 balls to take India beyond the 250 mark. In total, India struck 19 fours and 18 sixes, with 184 runs coming from boundaries.
Chasing a daunting target of 256, New Zealand struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Despite a fighting 52 from Tim Seifert, the team was bowled out for 159 in 19 overs.
