Union Cabinet Approves Jaipur Metro Phase-2; Major Boost to Urban Growth and Energy Sector

Ananya soch: In a significant push towards Rajasthan’s infrastructure and economic growth, the Union Cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project. The decision comes as a major achievement for Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the landmark approvals. Additionally, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has sanctioned the revised cost of the Pachpadra Refinery project.

The Jaipur Metro Phase-2 will develop a 41-kilometre North-South corridor connecting Prahladpura to Todi Mod. This corridor is set to link key industrial and residential zones from Sitapura to VKIA (Vishwakarma Industrial Area), significantly improving urban mobility and positioning itself as a lifeline for the city.

The project will feature 36 stations and is estimated to cost over ₹13,037 crore. It will be executed by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan. The corridor will ensure seamless connectivity to major hubs such as Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, stadium areas, Ambabari, and Vidhyadhar Nagar. Underground stations in the airport zone will further enhance the integration of the metro network.

Currently, Jaipur Metro Phase-1 operates along an 11.64-kilometre East-West corridor from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar with 11 stations. The addition of Phase-2 will expand the network extensively, easing traffic congestion, improving public transport efficiency, and strengthening Jaipur’s position as a modern, future-ready city aligned with the vision of a developed India.

Pachpadra Refinery to Strengthen Energy Security
In another major development, the Cabinet has approved the revised cost of ₹79,459 crore for the Pachpadra-based HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited. Chief Minister Sharma termed this decision as visionary, stating that the refinery will play a crucial role in strengthening not only Rajasthan’s industrial landscape but also the country’s energy security.

The project is expected to accelerate industrial activities in the region and generate over 25,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing significantly to the state’s economic empowerment.
