At the Rajasthan International Centre, audiences experienced an Irish documentary screening and a mesmerizing classical music recital, while other venues hosted art residencies and literary discussions, highlighting the city’s dynamic cultural landscape.
Documentary Screening on Irish Heritage
A special screening of the award-winning documentary
From That Small Island was organized at the Mini Audi-2 auditorium of RIC.The documentary traces the journey of Ireland’s people from its earliest settlers to modern times, exploring themes of migration, identity, and cultural heritage. Narrated by acclaimed actor Colin Farrell and featuring original music by Colm Mac Con Iomaire, the film provides a powerful cinematic reflection on the Irish diaspora.
Today, while about 6 million people live on the island of Ireland, more than 80 million people worldwide identify as being of Irish descent.
Sarod Maestro Enchants Jaipur Audience
In another highlight of the evening, legendary sarod virtuoso Ustad Amjad Ali Khan delivered a soulful performance under the “Anhad” music series.
His rendition of Raag Shyama Gauri captivated the audience with its depth and elegance. The performance also featured rhythmic interplay between sarod and tabla, accompanied by Rohan Bose and Zuheb Khan.
The maestro emphasized that music remains a profound form of spiritual expression and encouraged nurturing musical sensibility among children from an early age.
National Art Residency Begins in Jaipur
The national multidisciplinary art residency **“Traditions in Transition” began in Jaipur from March 14 to March 19 at Kalaneri Art Gallery. Organized by Kalaneri Art Centre in collaboration with Aayam Residency, the initiative aims to foster dialogue between traditional and contemporary art practices. According to curator Soumya Vijay Sharma, the residency features workshops on printmaking, textile art, and the traditional Gujarati art form Mata ni Pachedi.
Literary Discussion on Contemporary Poetry
A literary discussion on the poetry collection **“When Gods Don’t Matter” by Jaipur-based publicist and poet Jagdeep Singh was held at Jai Club. During the session, the author encouraged young poets to write with honesty and courage, emphasizing the importance of authentic self-expression in contemporary poetry. Published by Hawakal Publishers in Delhi, the book contains 50 free-verse poems written over four years.
